The Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone (ETU-SL) hosted its annual Orientation Ceremony on January 16th and 17th, 2025, welcoming hundreds of new students to its vibrant academic community. The two-day event, held at the university’s main Amphitheater and its Nixon Location, marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the incoming students as they embarked on their higher education journey.
The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Mohamed Taillu Lahai officially opened the ceremony with an inspiring welcome address. He encouraged the students to seize every opportunity for academic and personal growth, emphasizing the university’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.
The orientation program featured various activities designed to familiarize students with the university’s policies, facilities, and services. Presentations were delivered by representatives from key departments, including the Office of the Registrar, the ICT Directorate, the Library Services, and the Student Affairs Division.
The ICT Directorate showcased its state-of-the-art resources and services, emphasizing the importance of technology in modern education. New students were introduced to the university’s online portals, digital learning platforms, and other ICT tools to support their academic success.
During the interactive sessions, students had the opportunity to meet faculty members, engage with senior students, and ask questions about academic expectations and campus life. The Student Union also hosted a special session to introduce new students to extracurricular activities, clubs, and organizations that promote personal development and social engagement.
The climax of the event was a campus tour, where students explored key facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, the library, and recreational areas. This provided them with a better understanding of the resources available to support their academic and extracurricular activities.
Speaking at the event, the Director of ICT, Mr. Robert A.P.H. Magbity, highlighted the role of technology in enhancing the student experience and encouraged students to actively utilize the university’s ICT resources.
The orientation ceremony concluded with closing remarks by the Registrar Mr. John Juana, who reiterated the university’s mission to nurture globally competitive graduates and assured students of a supportive learning environment.
The entire Eastern Technical University community extends a warm welcome to all new students and wishes them a successful and rewarding academic journey.
