Matriculation Ceremony 2021-2022 Academic Year

ETU-SL MATRICULATES 2538 NEW STUDENTS
The Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone has on Saturday 26th February 2022 organised matriculation ceremony for the first crop of students at the Dr. Julius Maada Bio Amphitheatre.
In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor and Principal, Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone, Prof Ing Mohamed Konneh commended efforts by the government and other stakeholders in ensuring that the then Eastern Polytechnic was upgraded and transformed into a university. He said that was the very first matriculation ceremony for the first set of university students that have been admitted. He describe the ceremony as historic.  


Prof. Konneh explained that most students didn’t want to be admitted to the  Polytechnic that was why they had to travel far away from home to pursue  university education. The astute Vice Chancellor and Principal reminded the students about the policies and statutes that govern the Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone.


 The Vice Chancellor & Principal informed the gathering that the institution  has one of the best equipped libraries in the country that hosts a high speed internet and updated reading and learning materials. He therefore appealed to the students to take their academic work seriously. Prof. Konneh concluded by congratulating the new breed of students of the Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone.
In his address to the students, Prof. Joe A.D. Allie thanked the Eastern Technical University Administration for honouring him and according him the privilege to address the crop of leaders. He said the process of matriculation gives students the opportunity to confirm acceptance of being part of the university and also to conform to the regulations of the university, Prof. Joe A.D. Allie, the seasoned historian, who also doubles as keynote speaker emphatically stated that the primary aim of the marticulants is to work hard, make better degrees and acquire sound diplomas. He reminded the matriculating students of the numerous learning resources that are available and encouraged them to utilise those facilities judiciously. He furthered that it is not a crime for students to belong to social clubs but rather they should ensure that they concentrate much more on their academics rather than the social aspect of their university days.

The Keynote Speaker    
The Registrar Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone Mr. John Juana expressed delight for the kind of admission the institution had for the 2021/22 academic year. He said, two thousand five hundred and thirty eight (2538) applicants were admitted as compared to before where such numbers were hard to come by. He recalled when fewer students were admitted to the Faculty of Engineering and Innovation. ” This year’s admission has changed that narrative” The Registrar affirmed. In conclusion, The the Registrar  presented the students to the various Faculty Deans for the recitation of oath and  declaration to become boba fide members of the university. Esther Yamba, one of the matriculating students summed up the occasion by thanking all present.
